Publishing like a mad man. If someone asked me to describe Matt’s writing in one word, I would be torn between the words “possibilities” and “love,” both of which sound fairly cheesy but listen: Matt’s stories remake the world around him into many worlds, each possible, each by turns strange and hilarious and menacing and heartachey. “Love” because his stories are about trying to make connections, sometimes failing, trying again. There is a reaching loneliness in his stories. It’s somewhat rare for an innovative writer to be so in tune with the pulsing emotive underside of the formally playful structures his stories inhabit. That is to say, thanks Matt.
